Title
COVID-19 Response and Resources
Description
The host to be consecrated for the faithful should be placed in a ciborium and on a corporal on the side of the altar. This allows the priest to proffer the words of consecration directly over the host he will consume, with the other hosts not directly in front of him as he prays the Eucharistic Prayer. At the start of mass and again at the time of Holy Communion, the priest should explain how Holy Communion will be distributed. The minister washes or sanitizes his hands before distributing Holy Communion. He may also put on a mask. Holy Communion may not be distributed with gloves nor may it should be received in the hand if someone is wearing gloves. If possible, a stand with a corporal and hand sanitizer should be at the place of distribution of Holy Communion. Be sure to mark the floor where people will line up to indicate proper spacing between persons. The minister should take special note not to touch the faithful in any way. If he does, he should pause, place the ciborium on the nearby table, sanitize his hands, and then proceed. It is not necessary to sanitize hands between each communicant unless physical contact is made.
