And there is a tendency in this camp for folks to fixate on fantastic signs of the End. If you open the door to the futurist view, you could spend a lifetime trying to read the signs and understand what they all mean. People say that the pandemic is a sign of the end. Others have said that the government shutdown is a persecution against Christians. I’ve had someone say to me that if the church doesn’t open our buildings that by the end of the pandemic there will be no church. I’ve heard speculation that the shortage of coins in our grocery stores is the precursor to a one world order. Before you know it, you’ll be receiving the mark of the beast as a chip implanted in your forehead. Maybe when you were a kid you watched the movie The Thief in the Night or Left Behind in church youth group. It was a scare you into heaven event. People in this camp need to be careful because very often anxiety, fear, and sometimes conspiracy theories about spread about current events that are believed to be signs of the end. There has been a whole end times cottage industry over the last two thousand years, and the same was true in Jesus’ day.
